Black Coffee

During this morning digital talk show, hosts keep viewers up to date on social media’s buzziest conversations, and dialogue that moves the culture forward.

BRIEF

BET producers commissioned me to transform their soundstage into an organic living room. Instead of the traditional news set, we built a warm, relatable, and interactive environment for the hosts and guests to kick back.

DESIGN

The single framed monitor is the anchor of the set, which allows for interchangeable assets while preserving the casualness of the space. I used themes Black Coffee and Black excellence while sourcing decor to layer the room. Other goals were to allow for gender neutrality, flexibility and occasional redecoration, depending on the episode’s subject matter. Finally, light panels were mounted as faux windows to emphasize the morning theme.

RESULTS

On June 3, 2019, BET Network premiered Black Coffee across YouTube, Facebook Watch, Twitter, BET Now App, and BET.com. With over 27k subscribers, the show has been met with a positive response. It is considered a fresh and fun platform that gives a voice to Black leaders and Black issues.
